The Realistic TRF AM/FM Receiver

We had one of these in the mid-1980s. These radios featured wicked AM reception, with sharp nulling abilities. They included good FM reception.

The TRF used a 'tuned radio frequency' circuit that really enhanced reception. I used one in conjunction with a home-built tuned box loop, and was able, for example, to null former local station 1310-CIWW, a 50-kW powerhouse, so that I was able to hear a more-distant station in the background.

Unfortunately, the TRF was not sturdily designed, and prone to mechnical failure. The unit was long ago retired and stripped for useable parts.
